Alta M. Flamingo Pattern

I made this pattern in Memory of my Dear Mom who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1997. She was a truly beautiful woman with a warm heart & a heart of gold. I miss her everyday. I think she would’ve liked the flamingo it’s kinda silly & makes me smile just like she did.


Supplies: G hook, Worsted weight yarn in Hot pink, Light pink, scraps of white & black, You could also use fun fur for wings & legs, Stitch marker, Toy stuffing

Body & Head w/ Light pink starting at bottom of body
Note always mark rounds
Chain 2, 8 sc in second chain from hook
(1) 2 sc in each sc around (16 sc)
(2) Sc in 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, repeat around (24 sc)
(3) Sc around
(4) Sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, repeat around (32 sc)
(5-10) Sc around
(11) Sc in 2 sc, Decrease, repeat around (24 sc)
(12) Sc around
(13) Sc in 1 sc, Decrease, repeat around (16 sc)
(14) Sc around, Stuff Body
(15) Decrease around (8 sc)
(16-25) Sc around, Stuff
(26) 2 sc in each sc around (16 sc)
(27 & 28) Sc around
(29) 2 sc in each of next 3 sc, Sc in 13 sc (19 sc)
(30) 2 sc in each of next 3 sc, Sc in 16 sc (22 sc)
(31) Sc around
(32) Sc in 16 sc, Decrease 3 times (19 sc)
(33 & 34) Sc around
(35) Sc in 11 sc, Decrease 4 times ( 15 sc)
(36) Sc around
(37) Decrease, Sc in 1 sc, repeat around (10 sc) Finish Stuffing
(38) Decrease around (5 sc) Fasten off & sew closed

Beak Starting w/ black
Chain 2, 4 sc in second chain from hook
(1) 2 sc in each around (8 sc)
(2-5) Sc around, At end of row 5 join Hot pink Fasten off Black
(6) Sc in 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, repeat around (12 sc)
(7 & 8) Sc around, At end of row 8 slip stitch to first sc & fasten off leaving long tail Stitch black part of beak flat then stuff pink part & sew to head

Wings w/ Hot pink
Start with long tail for sewing to body
Chain 9, Sc in second chain from hook & in each chain (8 sc) Chain 1 turn
(1 ) Sc in each sc across, Chain 1 turn
(2) Sc in each sc across, Chain 1 turn
(3) Decrease, Sc in 4 sc, Decrease (6 sc) Chain 1 turn
(4) Sc in each sc across, Chain 1 turn
(5) Decrease, Sc in 2 sc, Decrease (4 sc) Chain 1 turn
(6) Sc around, Chain 1 turn
(7) Decrease 2 times (2 sc)
(8) Decrease (1 sc) Do not turn
Sc evenly around entire wing putting 2 sc in each corner (28sc) Fasten off sew wide part of wing together then sew to body

Eyes Make 2 in White & 2 in Hot pink
Chain 2, 4 sc in second chain from hook join w/ slip stich to first sc Fasten off leaving tail Sew pink eye to head then sew white eye halfway over pink eye using black sew a dot in the middle of eye

Legs w/ Hot pink (make 2)
Chain 7, Sc in second chain from hook & in next 5 chains, continuing on underside of chain sc in 6 loops (12 sc)
(1-3) Sc around
(4) Decrease, Sc in 2 sc, repeat around (9 sc)
(5) Decrease, Sc in 5 sc, Decrease (7 sc)
(6-30) Sc around, At end of row 30 slip stitch to first sc Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing Do not stuff Before sewing to body sew Row 5 together to form ankle then halfway up leg sew 2 rows together to form knee sew leg to body

w/ Hot pink cut 4 pieces of fringe & attach to top of head

That's an adorable and happy-looking flamingo! :) Any parent would be proud to have their kids continue to be creative and expressive, and you do both so well.

I like your etsy store profile where you describe your attachment to your creations. I also get very attached to my creations! Your approach of keeping the first one before selling the pattern is a super idea, thank you!
